About the Role
A&O Shearman is seeking a Senior In-House Lawyer specialising in AI and data privacy to join its Data Privacy Risk team. Based in the firm’s Belfast office, this full-time role sits within the Risk function, which supports the business’s strategic objectives and upholds its values. You will provide senior legal advice on AI and data privacy matters, helping the firm manage legal risk and support responsible business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide practical in-house legal advice on AI and data privacy matters.
- Assess legal and regulatory risks associated with the use of data and AI technologies.
- Support the development and review of relevant policies, procedures and guidance.
- Work with colleagues across the business to embed privacy and risk considerations into decision-making.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments and explain their implications to stakeholders.
- Contribute to the Risk function’s work in supporting the firm’s values and strategic objectives.
What You'll Need
- A legal qualification and experience appropriate to a senior in-house advisory role.
- Strong knowledge of data privacy law and an understanding of the evolving legal landscape for AI.
- The ability to translate complex legal requirements into clear, practical advice.
- Sound judgement when assessing risk and balancing legal obligations with business needs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with legal and non-legal colleagues.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and handle sensitive information with discretion.
