Norwich + Hybrid Work from Home Up to £80,000 + Benefits Fully Remote considered for the right candidate KO2 is working with a fast-growing power electronics engineering business based in Norwich, developing power electronics products - including inverters, motor controllers, DC-DC converters and chargers - for automotive and adjacent sectors. As the business scales, hardware leadership has become a critical gap, and they're now looking to bring in a Lead Electronics Engineer. The Role This is very much a leadership role rather than a hands-on design position. The business already has strong technical depth across its engineering team, so what's needed is someone who can lead, coach, and get the best out of that team - managing risks and issues, coordinating delivery, and translating technical progress for the wider business. As an early-stage, fast-growing SME, the right processes here look different to those at a large Tier 1 or OEM. You won't be expected to replicate the structure of a JLR or a BMW - instead, you'll need to recognise what 'good' looks like for a business at this stage and implement pragmatic processes that help the team deliver, without over-engineering it. You'll lead a team of five electronics engineers plus a technician, working closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams (including software/controls) to deliver robust power electronics products. Key Responsibilities Lead, coach and develop a team of circa 4-5 hardware/electronics engineers and a technician Own risk and issue management across hardware and electronics development projects Implement engineering processes appropriate to a fast-growing SME environment, rather than imposing large-corporate process overhead Translate technical problems and project progress for senior leadership and other stakeholders Support and guide delivery of power electronics projects - inverters, motor controllers, DC-DC converters, chargers and similar - across automotive and other relevant sectors Leverage the existing technical expertise within the team, helping engineers solve problems rather than solving them yourself Collaborate closely with senior leadership on project direction and resourcing Skills & Experience Proven experience leading or managing a hardware/electronics engineering team, ideally within an SME or fast-growth environment Background in power electronics product development - inverters, DC-DC converters, motor controllers, chargers, or similar. Broad exposure across different power electronics projects is valued more highly than deep specialism in one specific technology Strong people leadership skills, with a track record of managing and developing engineering teams (experience managing remote or distributed teams is a plus) Comfortable operating with less process and structure than a large corporate, and able to build the right level of process for the business rather than trying to recreate a big-company environment Automotive experience is useful but not essential - broader experience across sectors such as aerospace, marine, drones or similar power electronics applications is equally valued What's on Offer Salary of up to £80,000, depending on experience, plus benefits Genuine flexibility on location - remote working will be considered for the right candidate, with occasional travel to the Norwich site The opportunity to build and shape a hardware engineering function within a growing power electronics business, at a pivotal point in the company's growth Exposure to a fast-moving sector, working across diverse applications in power electronics If you're a technically credible engineering leader who's more energised by developing people and delivering projects than by being the resident power electronics expert, and you're looking to make a real impact within a growing SME, this is well worth exploring. xrexnqw Apply today with an up-to-date CV to KO2 Embedded Recruitment Solutions.
