Tired of spending half your week driving? Fed up with poor kit, limited overtime or being stuck doing the same service visits with nowhere to progress?
Our client is looking for an experienced multi-skilled Fire & Security Engineer to join a well-established engineering team covering a manageable regional patch across Oxford, Cheltenham, Swindon, Reading and the M4 Corridor. This is a business that genuinely invests in its engineers, with good-quality equipment, regular training, strong technical support and opportunities to develop as the company continues to grow.
This is not a service-only position. You'll be trusted to work independently across a varied workload including fault finding, repairs, remedials, maintenance and small works. You'll therefore need solid hands-on experience across fire alarms, CCTV, access control and intruder systems , together with the confidence to attend call-outs and complete single-engineer remedial works. The original specification also highlights ongoing manufacturer and systems training, with engineers not expected to arrive knowing every panel or product used by the business.
Job Description Carry out fault finding, repairs, remedial works, maintenance and small installations across Fire & Security systems.
Work confidently across fire alarms, CCTV, intruder and access control/door entry systems .
Diagnose faults and complete repairs independently on customer sites.
Undertake small works and system upgrades rather than purely planned service visits.
Liaise directly with customers, explaining faults and technical solutions clearly.
Complete risk assessments, reports and associated documentation accurately.
Participate in the out-of-hours call-out rota, currently approximately 1 week in 12 .
Maintain company vehicle, tools and stock to a high standard.
Person Specification Strong practical experience as a multi-skilled Fire & Security Engineer .
Experience across CCTV, access control, fire alarm and intruder systems is essential .
Comfortable completing fault finding, repairs and remedial works without additional engineering support.
Must have experience beyond routine servicing and preventative maintenance.
Good understanding of commercial Fire & Security systems and safe working practices.
Confident working independently and managing your own workload across a regional patch.
Strong customer communication skills and a professional approach on site.
Full UK driving licence.
Experience with systems including Gent, Advanced, Notifier, Morley, C-Tec, Paxton, PAC, Videx, Galaxy, Texecom, Hikvision, Dahua and IP CCTV would be useful, but comprehensive experience across every manufacturer is not expected. Further training and development can be provided.
This is a particularly good opportunity for an engineer who likes the technical variety of Fire & Security work but wants a better overall employment package: up to £24 per hour / £49,920 basic , overtime paid at 1.5x for evenings and 2x for weekends and late working , plus a £250 payment for each call-out week . You'll also receive a company van/car, fuel, laptop, mobile phone and tools, alongside pension, healthcare and 25 days' holiday plus statutory holidays .
Just as importantly, you'll be joining a business that wants to retain and develop good engineers. There is ongoing investment in training, good-quality kit, varied work and genuine scope to broaden your technical knowledge rather than being left doing the same routine visits year after year.
If you're a genuinely multi-skilled Fire & Security Engineer and you're ready for a role with a sensible regional patch, strong earning potential and an employer that invests in its engineering team, we'd like to hear from you.
