About the Role
Building Careers UK Ltd is recruiting an Estimator for a permanent position with a well-established regional main contractor based in Preston, Lancashire. With a history spanning more than a century, the contractor delivers projects across the North West, covering new build, refurbishment, maintenance, electrical and joinery services. You will support competitive tender submissions for work across sectors including education, healthcare, commercial, industrial and retail.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects, reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documents.
- Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations to build accurate tender pricing.
- Identify project risks, cost considerations and opportunities for value engineering.
- Work with project teams to clarify scope, construction methods and programme requirements.
- Compile tender submissions and support the handover of successful bids to delivery teams.
What You'll Need
- Relevant estimating experience within construction, ideally with a main contractor.
- A sound understanding of construction methods, materials and subcontractor packages.
- The ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and tender information.
- Strong numerical skills and attention to detail when preparing and checking estimates.
- Clear communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage competing tender deadlines.
