About the Role
A&O Shearman is seeking a Data Protection Lawyer for a full-time Senior In-House Lawyer: AI & Data Privacy position within its Data Privacy Risk team. The role is based in the firm’s Belfast office and forms part of a Risk function that supports the firm’s values, strategic objectives and long-term success. You will bring legal expertise to data privacy and AI-related matters, helping the business navigate risk and make informed decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide practical in-house legal advice on data protection, privacy and AI-related risks.
- Support the assessment of privacy implications arising from business activities and the use of technology.
- Help develop and review policies, guidance and processes relating to data privacy and AI.
- Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments and explain their implications for the firm.
- Work with colleagues across the Risk function and wider business to support sound risk management.
What You'll Need
- A legal qualification and relevant experience appropriate to a senior in-house lawyer role.
- Strong knowledge of data protection and privacy law, including UK GDPR and associated requirements.
- An understanding of legal and regulatory issues associated with AI and emerging technologies.
- The ability to translate complex legal requirements into clear, commercially practical advice.
- Sound judgement, strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to stakeholder relationships.
