Do you have the following skills, experience and drive to succeed in this role Find out below. Location: Remote, UK Are you an experienced Lead Data Engineer / Data Team Leader, or Data Engineering Manager ready to take the next step in your career? You do not need to have held a senior management title to be considered. If you have led or mentored engineers, stayed hands-on with modern Azure data technologies, and helped take a data platform through meaningful transformation, this could be your opportunity to step into a broader leadership role. You will join an organisation as it moves from a fragmented data landscape to a scalable, integrated enterprise data platform. This is not a role where you will inherit a finished solution and keep it running. You will help shape the architecture, lead the technical delivery and develop the engineering capability needed to support the organisation's future. What's in it for you? A genuine opportunity to step up from a Lead Data Engineer or similar role Ownership of a significant global data platform transformation The freedom to influence the platform roadmap, architecture and technical direction An existing team of six, with budget to grow to ten during the next financial year The opportunity to build your formal leadership experience while developing and mentoring engineers A role that keeps you close to the technology rather than moving you entirely into people management International scope, supporting users and services across APAC, EMEA and the Americas Exposure to senior stakeholders across technology, architecture, product and the wider business The opportunity to apply your expertise within an organisation whose work has a meaningful global impact What will you be doing? You will help lead the journey from legacy and fragmented data services to a modern, integrated Microsoft data platform. Working across strategy, architecture and hands-on delivery, you will: Help define and deliver the data platform roadmap Design and deliver solutions using Azure Data Lake, Databricks, SQL and Python Lead the transformation and migration of existing systems and data services Translate the wider programme into practical workstreams covering migration, integration, governance, analytics and legacy retirement Design scalable data platforms and contribute to key architectural decisions Remain technically involved, providing guidance and resolving complex engineering challenges Lead, mentor and develop data engineers, helping to improve capability and engineering standards Strengthen approaches to pipelines, medallion architecture, data quality, lineage and governance Improve version control, branching, pull requests, CI/CD and promotion across development, test and production environments Help shape a resilient global support model, including coverage, escalation routes, recoverability and operational ownership Work collaboratively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across a complex international organisation What experience do you need? The organisation is open to candidates taking their first step into a role of this scale. You may already be a Data Engineering Manager, or you could be a Lead Data Engineer, Technical Lead or Data Platform Lead who has led or mentored engineers and is ready for greater responsibility. You must be able to demonstrate: Hands-on experience with Azure Data Lake Strong practical experience with Databricks and SQL Experience using Python within a data engineering environment Data platform design and architecture experience A track record of taking systems or platforms through transformation Experience delivering data platforms, rather than only maintaining established solutions Experience leading, mentoring or providing technical direction to data engineers A good understanding of data pipelines and medallion architecture The ability to move between high-level design and real-world technical delivery The confidence to work with a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders Experience of formal line management would be valuable, but it is not essential. What matters most is that you have already demonstrated technical leadership, supported the development of other engineers and are ready to take greater ownership of people, platforms and delivery. This is an opportunity to build on your technical credibility and progress into a broader leadership position, without losing the hands-on involvement that has made you successful. Ready to make a difference with your expertise? If this opportunity resonates with you, *hit the apply button* today and take the next step in your career with a forward-thinking organisation committed to positive global impact.
